Custom Aluminum Mast Step
This is an aluminum part I made to replace a 50 year old part off of our sailboat. I bought the aluminum stock material from metal supermarket, made templates from the old mounting holes out of Masonite and shaped my own to add the turning blocks on the sides. Using a bench top 6" sander, medium sized drill press, and jigsaw I cut and shaped the parts. I don't have an easy way to anodize the parts so I cleaned them up with a 3M scouring pad painted washed carefully sodium hydroxide etch, rinse and and let it naturally form an oxidized coating.
